Energy Express is a free, voluntary, 6 week summer reading program for children entering 1st through 6th grades. The program runs Monday – Friday, June 18 -July 27. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with a “family style” breakfast and concludes at 12:30 after a “family style” lunch. Along with the two meals, children receive small group reading enrichment with a college student mentor and a free book to take home weekly. The Energy Express curriculum includes non-competitive recreation, creative arts, writing, and various styles of reading.
There is limited space – 64 openings at Widmyer and 32 at Paw Paw. Qualifying children are those receiving free and/or reduced meals and/or those who are enrolled in special education programming. If you child does not meet these requirements do not refrain from applying. Spaces not filled by qualifying children will be offered to others who have applied.
Older children may participate as volunteer teen assistants and any child 18 or under can come in and enjoy the meals at no cost.
Ways to enroll your child: complete application sent home with your child through the school or call 304-258-8400. Deadline for registration is May 23, 2011 or until all openings are filled.
