State 4-H Events

State 4-H Days – July 26-28, 2012

State 4-H Days allow youth to participate in a variety of state level educational activities that develop their subject matter knowledge, leadership skills and life skills.

This year’s events include the State 4-H Horticulture Judging Contest, the State Dog Skill-a-thon, Visual presentation, Public Speaking, and PowerPoint/Digital presentation state competitive events, and a variety of other fun, educational events.

Camping Opportunities

OLDER 4-H MEMBERSCONFERENCE June 17-23, 2012.
PURPOSES: To develop leadership among older 4-H members. To teach new skills during camp which can be used in their local clubs and communities. Each morning campers will be involved in presentations and discussion of topics current to today’s youth. Afternoon workshops are selected from those listed on the application.
WHO: West Virginia 4-H members who will be entering 9th grade.
COST: $85.00 if received by deadline. (Includes Morgan County 4-H Leader’s Association scholarship of $100.00.) Campers qualified for free and reduced lunch will receive an additional $30.00 Scholarship. A free and reduced form must accompany application to qualify.
REGISTRATION: Registration forms must be in the Morgan County Extension Office by Friday May 11 or register online at www.regonline.com/omc. Camp registration 12:30-2:30 PM, Sunday, June 17; camp closes at 11:30 AM, Saturday, June 23.

ALPHA CAMPS ALPHA I – July 8-13, 2012 ALPHA II – July 15-20, 2012
PURPOSE: To provide 4-H members personal development experiences to help better understand themselves and to display more personal confidence when assuming leadership positions. 4-H members will participate in a variety of workshops. Guest speakers and assemblies will emphasize daily theme.
WHO: West Virginia 4-H members entering 6th grade. Maximum camp enrollment is 400.
COST: $85.00 if received by deadline. (Includes Morgan County 4-H Leader’s Association scholarship of $100.00.) Campers qualified for free and reduced lunch will receive an additional $20.00 Scholarship. A free and reduced form must accompany application to qualify.
REGISTRATION: Registration forms must be in the Morgan County Office by Friday, May 25 or register online at www.regonline.com/alphaI or register online at www.regonline.com/alphaII. Camp registration is 2:00-4:00 PM on Sundays. Camp closes at 11:30 AM on Fridays.

ALPHA II WIRED AND WONDERFUL TRACK July 15-20, 2012
PURPOSE: 4 H members will take part in training series focusing on Science, technology, engineering and math and will discover possible career opportunities. Participants will also engage in Alpha II activities throughout the week.
WHO: West Virginia 4 H members entering 6th grade.
COST: NO CHARGE for two Morgan County 4-H members.
REGISTRATION: Registration forms must be in the Morgan County Office by Friday, May 25 or register online at www.regonline.com/alphaII. Camp registration is 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday. Camp closes at 11:30 AM on Friday

WEST VIRGINIA STATE CONSERVATION CAMP June 11 – 16, 2012
PURPOSE: To acquaint West Virginia youth with the social and economic values of our natural resources and environment; to train the youth for leadership in conservation.
WHO: Any youth who is at least 14 years of age on or before January 1, 2012, and not over 18 years of age by June 11, 2012.
WHERE: Camp Caesar, Cowen, West Virginia (Webster County)
COST: Free (for first 25 4-H registrants) $85 for others.
REGISTRATION: Pre-registration deadline for a 4-H scholarship is May 11, 2012 or register online at www.regonline.com/conservation_camp
PROGRAM: Classes are arranged to provide every camper with at least one hour of instruction in each of the following topics: Fish Management, Forest Protection, Conservation Law Enforcement , Nature Awareness , Watershed Management, Wildlife Management , Soil Conservation , Forest Management, Youth Conservation, Parks and Recreation, Forest Products, Water Quality Conservation.
OTHER ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: Trap Shooting, Archery, Small Boat Safety/Handling, Rappelling, Stream Quality Improvement, .22 Caliber Rifle Marksmanship, Outdoor Cooking, Fishing Skills, Non-game Wildlife, Paul Bunyan Night, and traditional camp activities including campfire program, group activities, recreation/sports, and dancing.
